Hello My Name Is...
Mrs. O-C
My passion for teaching began when I was in Lorne Akins Middle School in Alberta, Canada. My principal chose me to tutor struggling students after school and I willingly did so for two years. It was such a rewarding experience that I went on to teach swimming lessons to children of all ages. I continued to lifeguard and educate swimmers throughout my four years of University.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Major in Reading from the University of Alberta in Canada and a Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of California in Santa Barbara, California. This is my 30th year with the Douglas County School District. I have been fortunate to have been a first grade classroom teacher, an Educationally Handicapped Learning Specialist, Title I Early Intervention Reading Specialist, and most recently a part-time Literacy Specialist at Iron Horse Elementary.

I love working with our at-risk population and feel strongly that my main job is to build in my student's head a vision of success that's so powerful that nothing can change it! I feel so blessed to be able to meet the needs of these extraordinary youngsters each and every day.
